Color Blindness Test: See the Colors Clearly or Distorted? Let's Find Out

Color vision is crucial for identifying and remembering the things we see, and it affects our feelings toward objects. The colors we see are not the colors of objects themselves but the result of light waves reflecting off objects and entering our eyes, starting from the cornea and passing through to the retina.

 

In the retina, there are cone cells responsible for detecting light and color in bright environments. These cone cells are divided into three types: red, green, and blue. If one type of cone cell malfunctions, the individual will see colors differently from those with normal vision, a condition known as color blindness.

 

Symptoms of color blindness don’t mean complete color blindness, but rather, the inability to differentiate certain colors. The most popular method to check if one has color blindness is the Ishihara Test, where individuals are asked to differentiate colors in an image.

 

 

Color Blindness Test Plates

Plate 1:

Normal vision and color blindness will both see the number 12.

 

Plate 2:

• Normal vision sees the number 8.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 3.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 3:

• Normal vision sees the number 29.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 70.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 4:

• Normal vision sees the number 5.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 2.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 5:

• Normal vision sees the number 3.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 5.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 6:

• Normal vision sees the number 15.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 17.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 7:

• Normal vision sees the number 74.
• Red-green color blindness sees the number 21.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing.

 

Plate 8:

• Normal vision sees the number 6.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing or sees a different number.

 

Plate 9:

• Normal vision sees the number 45.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing or sees a different number.

 

Plate 10:

• Normal vision sees the number 5.
• Complete color blindness sees nothing or sees a different number.

 

Plate 13-15

In these plates, normal vision and red-green color blindness will see different numbers, while individuals with complete color blindness will see nothing or a different number.

 

Color blindness is often inherited, but those with normal color vision can also develop it due to factors like glaucoma, cataracts, retinal degeneration, or side effects from certain medications or chemicals.

 

For healthy eyes and early treatment in case of any abnormalities, it’s recommended to have an eye checkup at least once a year.
